To receive a considered answer you'd likely need to provide more information regarding the artworks with you tend/plan to engage. Even without knowing more, though, I think it's safe to say that if you like comics, physical media will provide an experience whose advantages outweigh its drawbacks, the reason being that outside of certain digitally geared formats, comics can prove cumbersome to read on a screen. Of course you didn't specify comics to begin with, so this suggestion may be irrelevant.

even though physical media is expensive, at the very least you should be pirating stuff and storing it locally on a hard drive. 99% of the time it's just pointless but that 1% where "oh no that site went down", "oh no, that thing got removed" it will save your ass.

dvds, comics, posters, figures. things like that. nerd/otaku rooms with big collections look pretty.

i will start doing this when i get a desktop pc.

tbh, if you don't got a desktop don't even think about dvds, comics, posters, figures, manga, etc. even a barbones pc is a pretty big quality of life upgrade from phone only. If you got a laptop already, then that's a bit different story. decent sized drives for most laptops are not hugely expensive, and will let you start building your archive.
for swag merch, it's nice to be surrounded by the images of things you like. I used to be into wall scrolls for that. posters, similarly. a figure or two of some stand out waifu/husbandos. but dvd/bluerays are so much less useful than a 256gb flash drive filled with mkvs when the internet is out. quality can be just as good, but no dealing with picking a disk, putting it in your player, and oh no, it turns out it's the xbox one and you never watched dvds on it so it needs to download the player from the online store and now you are screwed.

Yes you should. The joy I experience from listening to my black metal cassettes and cd's far exceeds what I would get from digitally streaming. Also you are supporting the artist (unless you are buying it second hand)

there's a difference between cassettes you actually listen to, and dvd's which would sit on a shelf and never get touched. also, i feel like better than corpo pressed cassettes, would be grabbing flacs of bandcamp artists you wanna support, then creating custom mixtapes with sharpie labels, or custom designed and printed labels. more personality.

if you live near somewhere you can access a lot of used physical media it can be cool, or like anon said and just make your own from digital media

Books and Vinyl records are the only physical media worth owning imo

when I next get the chance, I'm gonna go to a bookshop and buy physical versions of my pdfs. Reading off a screen all day might be free but it's hurting my eyes. Maybe some sort of e-ink device might be an easier sollution now that i'm thinking about it though...

You should use epubs instead of pdfs. They're way better for reading on a screen.

rule for physical media should always be: is it dirtcheap from a run-down second hand sore, if yes you should buy it, everything else is unsustainable

buy as many betamax tapes as you can buy. i have about 30 when i have more disposable income from juggin motherfuckers i will buy more until i fill at least 4 bins with them. hoard as many betamax tapes you can fit in your house they are the currency of the 22nd century
