just wondering what makes poeple scared or irritated at trying out something new that is slow and takes allot of time.

Having too many things that You would like to spend more time on already

Knowing that the time spent was a waste. Say VIM, people preach it for how useful it is to learn it. But the advantage gained from learning Emacs is greater than VIM, due to more features it holds. But the abundance of features is what scares people off to VIM.

more useless features. Vim/Neovim is all I need

once the ball gets rolling almost everything can be fun, the thing that bothers me the most is that I cant feel an immediate feeling of clear progress, a bit like running into a wall and feeling frustrated

I think it's sometimes about opportunity cost. Investing a lot of time and energy into something means you're not using that time for something else.
