My thoughts on the new icon

Just today I learned about the new favicon. For something that was created from a second attempt, that itself took me ~7 minutes in Krita, I feel conflicted. The fact that N0 deemed the work to be acceptable brings about a feeling of full gratification. But I am no 8-bit artist, nor an artist in particular. I wasn't the the one to come up with the design of the mascot. It was the talented →/read.cgi/lounge/1719416546/18/. I merely made the favicon to inspire far more talented artists at creating a favicon. Which through itself would display their love and appreciation for Denpa-chan and all what it stands for. At the same time I feel great guilt knowing that there might have been an artist who was unable to fulfill the idea of →/read.cgi/lounge/1719416546/22/ in a timespan of a day. Be it known that I was the person who requested the first (letter D) favicon to be added in the first place.

Although one can very easily use Denpa-chan on a simple terminal web browser and never see the favicon, truth is majority use modern web browsers. Be it Chromium, Gecko or WebKit based. One of the first impressions of a website is that small 16x16 favicon on the search results of a search engine. That favicon is either what brings in or away to the website. We, as humans, experience the world primarily through our eyes. It is no exaggeration of the emphasis I put into thes small image.

Denpa-chan mascot, onwards denpa usagi, now has been chosen as the first and official representation of Denpa-chan. Which is a very good step towards cementing this text board as not a passing attempt, but a resistant and strong community of like minded denpa [sic]. As expressed by N0 in his "imageboard tier list", imageboards are more enjoyable when the community is stronger and more unique. The same principle applies to any sort of a social media (yes, textboards are social media). For now Denpa-chan is a comfy hangout spot for friendly discusion by denpa [sic] with a independent, can-do attitude. Who knows, maybe in the future we'll see a denpa usagi manga. How it is the case for Lisp (http://lambda.bugyo.tk/cdr/mwl/), Ubuntu (http://www.aerialline.com/comics/ubunchu/). But for now that is merely a dream.

To summarize, I am perplexed with the new icon for Denpa-chan. I view the change as a positive force and a step in the right direction, but at the same time feel guilt. I look forward in denpa usagi becoming the staple of Denpa-chan community.

Yesterday I had a dream that the Denpa-chan icon was change. I felt horrified. It appears this event has deeply impacted me.
