so you've decided to create a bait post and now are laughing as people react to it.
congrats! you've made the internet a worse place to be in.

the problem with bait posts are multi level.
first is the ingenuine nature of such communication. (if it can even be termed communication)
we already inhabit an internet with a core problem of falsity. creating ill intentioned posts is just doing the same thing that a low effort ai listicle is doing, just on a smaller stage. I see literally no difference between the behaviour.
You may argue the difference is in the target of the bait. sure. but who exactly /are/ you targeting. some random soccer mom? a 15 year old still learning the ropes? you were once that 15 year old, so maybe you consider it a right of passage. you resent the soccer mom because she represnts a you you don't want to be. these aren't the source of the problem. making the internet a worse experiance for these types doesn't make the situation better, it just makes it worse for all of us. that soccer mom might learn to make cool gifs and bless us with the next doot skull. that 15 year old might make the next homestuck.

the next issue with it is more abstract.
in order to create a bait post, one must hypothosis a persona: the type of person who would create such a post. clearly since you, the baiter, are in actuality the person doing it, your existance is one answer. however, as Poe's law indicates, your bait being a form of satire, there exists an equally valid answer of someone genuinely who would post such a thing. indeed the bait wouldn't be bait if that wasn't the case.
thus can your bait ever really be bait? no matter how dumb you think people are, they are infinitly dumber, and knowing that how can someone "falling for the bait" even be considered to have "fallen for it"?

although I appreciate the effort in trying to analyze the baiter, ultimately, it is simpler than that:
getting replies is addictive, and so one will say anything to get them
it is being noticed, while simply not caring about the results of such notice

and often times, the idea that things are getting worse is lost on such a person, since they likely already believe that they are merely pissing in an ocean of piss

The solution to bait to "fall" for it shamelessly. All the sense of power is in being able to say "baited!" afterwards. You don't have to take this notion seriously. If a guy spits in your eyes, you shoudn't let "I wiz just pulling yer leg!!" get in the way of slapping him in the face.

(though being aware that it's bait and ingenuine lets you to find ways to make the slap hurt more)

im just gonna say it bait is not real any sinical form of communication is worthless not only to the receiver who is assumed to be the victim here but also from the senders perspective the have no genuine base to form a memory, making the whole message pointless,a memory of you pretending is not worth remembering I would even say its difficult to remember
