I don't think karma should exist. People around me are so caught up with the image they portray to other people, they no longer see meaning in helping others for THEIR OWN sake. Your good deeds do not need to be repaid as long as you understand the truth of the situation. If you are a good person then you know you are doing what you can to help the people around you. This should be enough. This in itself should grant you comfort because YOU know you are doing what you can. What other's perceive of you has no meaning. However for some reason it seems to me like adopting a mentality, where you focus more on introspection and less on the opinions of others, doesn't lead down a good path. Need to think a bit more about it... Either way the idea of karma makes you adopt a mindset where you think the universe owes you happiness in return for your kindness. The universe is not sentient, it does not owe anything to anybody. Fate used to be a synonym for randomness and believing in karma will hurt you in the long run.
