Do you ever feel like the stuff you learn at school is easily acessible to the point that it seems kind of stupid that you need to go to university? Im not trying to sound like all the university is useless kind of people but im kind of going to another extreme rn, university for me is so easy that it seems like cheating the system that in 5 years i can just practice the thing i majored on while for the whole duration i was studying publicly accessible documents. I love the ideas university is built on but idk it just seems kinda like we are not using universities to their fullest extent

I agree, but I want to guess that it wasn't always this way. I think universities have been affected by "grade inflation", because they have gone towards being run for-profit, where you're basically just exchanging money for a degree, which is more and more considered a basic requirement for employment. In the not-so-distant past (it seems to me), there were fewer jobs which required degrees, and university was cheaper or subsidised. Or on the other hand even further in the past, it was so exclusive that it was only for the upper crust of society who didn't even really need to work and could dedicate themselves to study for it's own sake. So I think that it used to be more of an intensive thing than it is these days.

i get your point but my first post came from the standpoint of a non american system where university is practically free. my point stands , university has lost its role as a place of research and has mostly become the doorstep to get into the labour market, thus becoming an amalgamation of shallow "research", which exists purely because of academics' necrophilic attatchment to their own academic years, and something called "real world applications" which rarely even approach the difficulty of the problems you are bound to face once you graduate.
