At this point I just want an old web in one country

Ban the import and manufacturing of smartphones, 5 year plan to phase out Wi-Fi starting with the schools, fund courses for website building and sign some antitrust laws or just make a national search engine. If it doesn't bring the internet back to how it was 20 years ago at least it will stop the Americanisation of my country.

i fully agree that “americanization” is extremely bad. BUT, let’s not fool ourselves it’s not an internet problem, it has 100% to do with how little governments care about making internal culture interesting. the us government has spent TONS of money to produce culture, even after ww2 the cia was indirectly funding the export and the creation of “culture”, such as art movies etc. nowadays governments, and i’m not talking about the g7 countries, simply don’t give a single fuck about anything culture related, or at least don’t care to fund it enough to actually make a difference.

The sad thing about the internet was it was supposed to bring people from different backgrounds together. Instead, it’s just an Americanization machine where the whole social media population is assimilated into the value system of a handful of California tech companies. Everywhere its just sameness.

Only Japan and maybe China have a culture industry that can rival the US. America is the world’s entertainer and its devastator.

don't forget south korea and india, although both china and india's culture industries mostly remain domestic they're also some of the biggest in the world. We just occasionally get a break through hit. Frankly I wish china would put a bit more effort into this, not because I support them or anything, just for nothing more than a change of pace from the american hegemony. It used to be that europe could be mentioned in these conversations, but it seems that era has passed.
polite sage for somewhat off topic

I don’t think India can really compete outside of film, and even then Bollywood has become a minstrel show with a large number of Hindutva racist genre slop movies. Hong Kong and Shanghai have a great film and TV industry. What >>2 says, a ton of this is how the whole global order has been wired around America for decades and UN development agencies have rammed cultural Americanization down our throats for the same time. Its also a pain to get people enthusiastic about culture that isn’t American. The Japanese anime industry simply wouldn’t be popular if it suddenly emerged today because what it means to be fun and interesting is American. If something isn’t like the stuff Americans have, it sucks. In Gulf countries, they have a fuck ton of malls and fast food joints, and people like these things for some reason while traditional coffee houses are seen as inferior.

Not a nationalist. I just don’t like global culture being dictated by Zuckerberg, Bezos, Apple, Google, and Netflix. I don’t want a world where everyone dress the same, has identical values, and have the same beliefs. Difference is good.

You already have that. What you're arguing for already exists. What you're arguing against is not americanisation.

You guys are not ready for the coming decades. Before long, the majority of people speaking English on the internet will be from the global south. They will be talking about food and media you've never heard of. Be careful what you wish for.

Damn, imagine everyone being racist against us instead of us being racist against them.

Global South has been destroyed by Americans. Even my cousins and nieces don't speak the indigenous language anymore but English while trying to mimic American accents. They wear American clothes and worship the American god: money and sex. There is no culture left anymore.

Einstein used to say the nuclear bomb and the computer would change the world. The nuke destroys physical reality whereas the computer destroys the principal of reality. By dragging the world into a single global village, space and time is flattened. Suddenly, everybody reasons with exactly the same ontology and the same patterned ways of thinking. The internet has become the ultimate obliterator of human difference. The trend of the internet is to flatten the world into a static cultural sludge. Wanting a confined internet is pointless, because this flattening is the inevitable result of the internet.

Chances are those people from the Global South will bring nothing new besides food maybe. They will reason with the exact same ideas as you. They will speak your language. They will watch the same media. In fact, they do so already. There are no separate cultures anymore. No differentiated societies. We are all Western now.

United Statesians are so fucking gay.

Such insane exaggerations in this thread. God forbid someone be a fan of someone else's culture. I guess being a weeb should be considered an evil, sign of cultural decay now too.

you're only willing to say that because it's the one group of people that leftists have said it's socially acceptable to hate for their immutable characteristics. in spite of the fact that they've done nothing aside from be born in a place.

oh ya? well my genetic lineage was cooped, and for 5 generations we have been speaking spanish or english rather than i don't even know what because it was obliterated by smallpox plague.
that said. "i" wouldn't exist if it didn't happen.

imperialism and culture destruction has been the norm for literally all of human history, and probably well into prehistory.

so... when and where do /we/ invade.
