deeply self reflective loop cycles tend to create ruts in the neural pathways (going down the same loops over and over) that makes it hard to shift perspectives (still can be done deliberately of course), combined with the fact that because most of the processing is going on about onesself it becomes very easy to miss things outside yourself which might be helpful (ie understanding the perspectives of others so that a deliberate perspective shift can be done in the first place).

when something is "not liked", as an example, there is little reason to deliberately perspective shift to find why it could be liked to someone else. that becomes a blind spot. The more tightly focused the self reflection the bigger and more glaring (to outside observers) the blind spots become.

this is all just my own perspective based on my experience, therefore it's subject to the same and can be dismissed easily on those grounds :)
