People in Iran want to live in big beautiful industrial cities and enjoy all the modern conveniences, These cities demand more water and food than the country’s ecology can supply it with. So aquifers have collapsed, wetlands dried up, nomads were massacred, whole provinces have turned into desert all to serve the big city. Some provinces are beyond saving. Better water management means less water for cities and factories so you can’t undo it. The oil wealth below fed a fossil fuel industry that created climate crisis on the surface. The people want what they can’t have and this want is killing the land they all live in. They can riot, massacre, and point fingers at each other but at the end of the day they did this to themselves.
