enough about youtube

We are not a subreddit for internet nano-celebrities. Even if we were at some point, they have disappeared now, so we can not be even if we want to be. Now is the time for us to come together and discuss, what is "denpa-chan.org" without youtube? What kind of community do we want to be?

Of course, various users are mourning what we have lost, and fair enough, I am too going to miss it. But I also recognize that disconnecting our community from the corpo meta-meatspace "platform" of youtube has the potential to lead to even greater things in the future! What if our preconceived notions of this nebulous "denpa video" thing was holding us back? We can open the door to non-commercial, collaborative projects, for example what if we created a denpa webzine? or a denpa game jam? or a denpa webring with denpa blogs? (i suppose that last one kind of already exists). These are just the first things which came to my head, but I am sure there are all kinds of interesting and creative avenues for collaboration and expression which we could come up with! I know this place is full of weirdo schizo artsy people, we can create more weirdo schizo artsy stuff, for it's own sake! What do you think, are any of those ideas interesting, or do you have your own ideas?

Fully on board with this. In particular a return to the blog format sounds really refreshing. Could be gatekept reasonably and promote more interesting and niche ideas. Vlogging seems passé at this point.

I agree, there is room to explore what denpa means in context outside the vlogging sphere. And as >>2 suggests blogs seem to be the most natural order to follow, although I also want to mention that we shouldn't admit the death of denpa videos as a format; if not having center figures is enough to "kill" the format then every other denpa thing would be dead on arrival under the same criteria. As for the denpa blogs, n0 hosts the denpa webring, but it is not about blogs in particular - just websites, perhaps we should make one specifically for blogs and manage entries through the board rather than through matrix.

I like this idea. However ooze just wrote an obituary on his blog for denpa tube. It seems like the intention was to put it to rest. But yeah there are new gens still making cool shit. These things can exist simultaneously.

Where is Dripping ooze's blog? I can't find it.

I think a separate webring for blogs would lead to unnecessary fragmentation but I agree with the idea of moving beyond the denpa video log format. Tomatoes are still fine and all but cucumbers are cool, we should plant some of those too. I used to have my own website but let it languish because I didn't feel like working on it by myself. I longed for a collaborative project to take some of the weight of having to control every aspect of a project by myself. I don't have anything concrete in mind at this time but I'd be willing to contribute to a webzine or perhaps a guest article on someone else's blog. I was about to go bed hopefully I'll dream up some good ideas.

I just think that having the webring tied to the board would make for more activity and discussion, maybe I'm wrong though.

bro n0thanky0u im fucking sick of hearing about the nano-meatspace
i UNDERSTAND that you really look up to n1x and all those people . I DO TOO. but actual NEETs who've been in the cut for four-twelve years just wanted a place where we could see each other's faces, interests, and keep up with one another without going out of the way to install librebooted OS'es on our jailbroken samsung phones and x220's

why is the world moving in such an uncomfy direction?
atleast upload the videos we've all been fucking loved watching for the past decade somewhere that it can stay permanently.
wtf

no one is asking you to do this, you just made this up. Nothing suggested by OP would require anything more complicated than just opening a web browser.

they're literally still on youtube, many of them are also mirrored on odysee. If you want to back them up to archive.org or your own NAS or whatever then please feel free to do so, they're all licensed under creative commons 0 you are free to do whatever you want with them

I'm very confused, do you think I somehow control your ability to upload images of your face to google's servers? I mean, I wish I did so I could stop people from doing it, but unfortunately I do not have that level of power. yet...

n0thanky0u has been terrorising my small english village with a series of petty thefts, incidents of vandalism, and gruesome murders. On tuesday he stole my bicycle and yesterday the entrails of my second cousin were found strung up around the local pup.

Could denpachan also end up being shut down ? I'm not sure what to say about denpatube in general, other than I respect people taking their time and doing life stuff away from it, and that there are still new channels sprouting off, so things will still likely exist about the 'denpa-culture', and users will still make denpa related content, regardless of what has come before. Comfypilled was also a channel that has resigned I believe. And the content he made is still up for watching. There's still neet denpa stuff to consume there.

Just move to Peertube.

Do any of you know a way for me to mass download entire channels, playlists alongside individual videos without running into errors from age restricted videos?

unfortunately anon the only way to bypass age restriction on youtube is verifying your age. I would recommend getting a throwaway google account and then age verifying it (legitimately or not) and then passing its cookies with yt-dlp whenever you want to download age-restricted videos.
