since kitsunekko recently went down, jimaku seems to be the new place for procuring jp subs

ahh didn’t realize that it came back online.
A few weeks ago they announced that it wouldn’t be updated anymore and a few days after that it went down for at least several days. nice to see it is back.

bumping this to ask, why the hell are all the japanese internet talk radio streams geolocked? what the hell japan? what are you trying to hide?!
also anyone know of any that aren't? preferably the kind that are like icecast streams or the like, no login, just add url to fileplayer and listen.

this is completely a guess, but I wonder if there are certain laws that apply to radio and what you're allowed to broadcast where. Well, that would apply only to official radio broadcasts maybe not random internet radio shows. Another possibility could be sponsor deals only applying in certain countries perhaps.

Does anyone have any video game recommendations for Japanese immersion? I'm a complete beginner, so keep that in mind, but I don't care what genre it is as long as there's enough input on some level. Do you think it'd be a good idea to replay games I am already familiar with in the JP translation? I've been considering that.

i have no idea how accurate a recommendation it is tho.

The first non-VN japanese game that I played for immersion was one of the Yugioh DS games. Even though small pixelated kanji can be tough to read, I thought it ended up being a good choice because I was already familiar with the general mechanics and the localized English card names and descriptions. Something comparable for you could be a good way to go. That said, if you're looking to input-max, gaming probably isn't the way.

Why is gaming possibly suboptimal, would you say? Is it just that things like books and shows are better for language-learning because they're more dialogue-heavy?

Jeuss christ what happend to his voice? Is he a chain smoker? I thought voice cracks should mostly go away after puberty?

It's not down for now but you can't access anything. Everything is archived on archive.org including downloads though.
I'm confused it's kind of limited. Most of the releases are there are old webrips, don't list their sources or are very generic, I also can't find most of the releases you're supposed to apply them to on nyaa anyway.

It's confusing seems like the index page is broken but the pages themselves work it's mirrored on subtitles.ajatt.top. Some releases are just AI-generated which you could do yourself probably though not sure how well I'd do with free models.

those posts are a tad ancient but these days sometimes kitsunekko works for me and sometimes it doesn't. I use jimaku for recent stuff though.
what anime are you having trouble finding on nyaa? it's rare to run into that issue

I have been listening to Nihongo con Teppei in the car lately.
He talks in a very natural, casual way (since he is a native Japanese guy) and occasionally goes off on tangents that can be a little hard to follow as a beginner, but he keeps things pretty easy. I can mostly understand most episodes, with some being easier than others.
He also has a more advanced level podcast (at least, he has mentioned it, I can't find it right now).
The earlier episodes are easier than the later ones (that also means they're a lot more boring in my case) and might be more useful to someone starting out. Sometimes he explains terms he uses, sometimes you just need to figure it out or look it up.
I definitely recommend this podcast.
