I have seen this new genre of "old people going on adventures" emerge in manga and some of the best current manga keep coming out of it. Sousou no frieren, Henkyou no Roukishi, Tensei Shite High Elf [...]. There's also been a genre of what I like to call "soft revenge" isekai, that contrast from things like shield hero by not being overtly about harming the parties involved. Good examples are S-Kyuu Guild wo Tsuihousareta Kedo [...], Tsuihou Sareta Tensei Juu Kishi [...], and Onna Dakara, to Party wo Tsuihou Sareta [...]. There's also been the "returner" genre of manhwa that's made it's way to manga, in the form of series like Kono Sekai ga Izure Horobu Koto wo [...].
What are your thoughts on new sub-genres emerging and becoming popular? Have you noticed any new flavours starting to take over japanese media recently?

there is indeed a flood of good and decently chill manga and manhwa coming out these days, I can almost read anything and its readable
i hope that the "small party of adventurers goes dungeon diving" sub-genre becomes popular as a result of frieren's popularity. if this sort of stuff becomes hip enough there's bound to be at least one new interpretation of the premise that is set in a low-fantasy world and that would make me the happiest man alive.

i don't keep up with newer anime and the few things i've heard haven't caught my attention. from your post it seems like an interesting development is occurring. we've been in the isekai era for so long i've been wondering what's next for a bit. also "soft revenge" is an awesome term imo.

Gosu is getting an anime which is exiting, i would consider it in the murim fantasy gerne
