looking back with a better understanding of japanese cuisine i get it now

funny? i dunno if i'd say it's funny but it is really good. well at least the first and 4th season are great. season 2 and 3 it felt like the animators were embarassed by the lewdity of it, which to me was like half of the "joke" (in quotes because it's not really a funny kind of joke) and without it the show just kinda had no point. season 4 i think is the best season thematically. like it actually has literally biblical themes, ie. satan wanting to save all of god's children at the stake of their freewill, battling against god's chosen in the name of individuality, even if it means some will choose to go astray.
season 1 is a typical coming of age story centered around kurobito b finding her drive to self actualization. nothing amazing but it has at least a main driving theme. season 2 and 3 are just kinda like paying taxes. and season 5 really doesn't need to exist. 1 is a strong 8, 4 is a solid 9. and that's good enough for me.

interested in what you mean about the difference with understanding japanese cuisine. like i have a general understanding and don't feel like any of it went over my head, so i don't know if im missing something or if i wouldn't have liked it if i didn't have even that understand i have (i think i still would have because food is pretty universal, and the themes don't rely on food understanding beyond what's literally in the text
