Re:"depth" exists in the viewer, not the thing

This is a common argument among post-digibro folk: Depth does not exist in media itself, but in the manner that the viewer experiences it. This sentiment was used to elevate everything from Slice of Life to archetypal Shonen to Harem shows into "Peak Media." Now, with the atomization of digital culture, we are seeing people who would otherwise be considered normies build communities on shortform platforms like Tiktok, creating adult fandoms for things like young adult novels and even cartoons for the preschool audience. Interestingly, there's an element of anti-intellectualism among these communities under the guise of "let people enjoy things." My autistic mind can't help but think that these normies would go into a retarded righteous frenzy if they had a media critic to intellectually justify their Bluey's dad fetishes.

regarding the normies and bluey. i think this is unlikely for the reason that they aren't likely to be looking for that kind of video in the first place. in principle you might be correct but in practice for millennial bluey parents tend to be pretty utilitarian in their youtubing (in my experience with relatives who are exactly this kind of people).

Funny it would lead to that because Trixie/Digibro herself was always fighting the "turn your brain off and enjoy things" attitude in viewers. If I were you I would give up having hope for normans, they cannot help but interact with things at the surface level.

I think it's just a matter of expectation. People expect low-quality shopping mall "what color is this firetruck?" toddlerbait or Cocomelon-type oversaturated YouTube brainrot because that's what they see around now when it comes to children's media, then they get surprised when something clears the bar that's basically on the floor.

If they're pushing anti-intellectualism, why would they care about justifying themselves using media analysis? Do you think the anti-intellectualism is just a cope and they'd switch to parroting smart-sounding arguments to feel better about enjoying Bluey?

It's kinda weird, because childrens shows are made to be as accessible as possible. If people got over themselves, liking good childrens shows should be pretty self-explanatory
