which anime from the 2000s have you been watching?
What do you like / dislike about this era?
How do you think it differs from modern anime? Was it really better back then, or is it just nostalgia goggles?

early 00's huh. recently finished hikaru no go which is (especially early in the show) oddly just a lot of animated go games, and extremely easy to binge despite it's large episode count. Onegaiā˜†Teacher, angelic layer, tsubasa reservoir chronicle, and mushi-shi are on my watch list for "soon". .hack//SIGN, Haibane Renmei and GaoGaiGar are pretty high up as best in class for what they do. i more or less enjoyed my-hime, R.O.D, the gokusen, elfen lied, chobits, mahoromatic, love hina, and flcl (no particular order), but I think im going to need to give chobits another watch before tsubasa (as well as giving magic knight rayearth a first watch, and rewatching xxxholic, X(1999) and card captor sakura, as tsubasa is kinda a universal multiverse of clamp stuff and i want to see the references)

was it better back then? my opinion is there is good stuff in every decade, as long as you aren't only into a specific genre. 70's and 80's scifi is great, 90's fantasy stuff is great. late 90's/early 00's has a lot of good harem/harem adjacent stuff, coalescences of fantasy and mecha/scifi tropes (gaogaigar, rune soldier, etc), and is roughly the tipping point where things start to be commenting on the nature of previously established tropes (very blunt examples in the likes of eva, excel saga/Puni Puni Poemy)

I like the early digital animation style where many where still using cel techniques rather than full digital native and cgi based techniques. We are only recently seeing a return to bringing back traditional appearing technique with the advancement of 3d shaders mixed with the possibilities afforded by full digital workflow (dandandan and demon slayer(sigh) are good examples)
but I don't think it's "the best" or "better" it's just different. i wouldn't only ever want to eat Hawaiian pizza even if i really like it, variety is the spice of life.

"Welcome to the N.H.K." is great and really gets me in a sad mood this time of year.

this was also my assumption. neither nhk nor zetsubou fit this timeframe.

The OP just says "2000s", it was >>2 that added "early"

as 7 and 2, i'll blame dementia of 10000 years living in a trashcan on the moon. ;;
there are way more good 2000's anime then but i feel so dejected after limiting myself to "early 2000's" for apparently literally no reason.

just finished code-e - mid romance anime about a girl with a mysterious power to emit strong EM and causes electronics to fritz. very slight amounts of intrigue about potential secret organizations looking to harness this power for unknown reasons.
just started season 2 of the same story (Mission-E) which takes place after a several year time skip. the group of highschool students from the first season form essentially a super hero team dedicated to finding and rescuing other girls who also have this power (apparently only women can be "denpa-sisters" )
Moving from one to the next gave me whiplash (I guess this is why they decided to give it a completely different name, rather than just call it season 2)
