Yeah, there is also a strange comfort to it as well.
I think the amount of visual noise nowadays has contributed a lot to the gradual decline in attention span.

No more reaction-image-only replies. It's true that it's a matter of the user base how a board turns it, but 4chan in it's current state would benefit greatly if it were a textboard.

I used textboards before I ever used 4chan. The text only format makes for better posts. Its less ADHD inducing and makes for less stressful experience. My brain isn't being bombarded with images all the time. Pizza spam isn't as bad because they can't upload images. Just compare b to DQN.

not really. taking wallpapers as an example. if you are on of the 100billion 1080p single monitor users you are probably ok. but for multimonitor backgrounds, higher resolutions, strange aspect ratios. etc. you are basically shit out of luck. much much better to go to a booru. same is true for basically /all/ use cases. porn, i sure do love low res 5 second clips with either no audio or terrible audio. yawn. etc. this ignores of course the ever present problem of needing to dig through a thousand posts to find the one image that you like (and the psychic cost to needing to become immune to the 50 images that would have disgusted you before you became numb to them)

Nothing can replace /d/ and where else can I discuss hentai online? 4chan sucks for that but I don’t mind an imageboard format. I guess a textboard for hentai could be more discussion themed instead of a sausage fest of users typing one handed while clutching their dick, but I don’t know. Low res porn is better than HD because it’s less likely to be addicting. 3DPD porn is just bad in general. Its the visual equivalent of meth.

Absolutely. BBS has more SOUL. It feels like we're going back in time. The discussion is also higher quality. Both because the really low iq posters are filtered and also because the medium is literally centered text.
