Never despair, it's never helpfull and you can indeed get addicted to a certaint kind of sadness... I was also unemployed for a while and the only thing I regret was my despair and rotting in my room in those times =/
Just try to maximize your health, physical and mental. Everything else will follow. Learn to cook good cheap meals, go for a walk every day and reduce (overly stimualting) media consumtion, maybe even get a cheap productive hobby like drawing, building birdhouses or other simple woodworking projects, maybe help out at an animal shelter etc...
Controversial take: If you've become somewhat stable I would even recomend serving in the army for a year and go through basic training at least.
