motivating yourself to watch anime

1 Name: Anonymous 2024-04-15 15:35
i have a rough time sitting down and just watching shows that i like, and i think its cause i cant multitask while watching anime. i need to be reading the subs and paying full attention to actually internalize any of it, plus i think that multitasking kinda devalues whatever art you're viewing at the time. anyone have advice for paying better attention?

Unironically, drugs. Even just caffeine helped me a lot to focus on anime.

i find that i have an easier time concentrating when i watch anime in bed on my laptop. i find it harder to watch shows or movies on my desktop because i mainly use it for video games and communications.

i'm kinda in the same boat tho i usually stim to get past that hill. on days when my concentration is extra fucked i try to make it a goal. "let's sit down and watch one ep of this." it's kinda how i push through a lot of tasks already, so idk if it will help you. best of luck anon.

Watching anime is fun in theory, but doing it feels like a bother recently. Unless its for learning languages which makes it more engaging.

learning languages
I highly recommend anyone who considers themselves an otaku to learn japanese. Not only does it take away the bother of reading subs but it also lets you reach a deeper level of understanding than translations will ever allow.

i don't know why, but i enjoy reading manga more than watching anime, it's just easier for me personally?
11 Name: Anonymous 2024-04-16 04:33
hovewer watching anime is easier than reading vns for me
12 Name: Anonymous 2024-04-16 05:22
Watch anime on a television if you can. reading VNs is harder cause you are on a PC so there's always a temptation to tab out to soc-med.

try watching it while you eat meals, you are already semi-distracted eating the meal so it will be hard for you to click away from the anime. Also, you can pause the episode at around the halfway mark and watch the rest later that day. That way, you are watching more managable chunks of 10 minutes rather than committing to 20 at a time. This works for me when my attention span is wrecked, you are able to concentrate on more at a time the more often you do it. Only watch anime you really like too, don't force yourself to watch something just because it's currently airing or everyone else says it's cool. Art should speak to you personally, even if you have a hard time listening.
14 Name: Anonymous 2024-04-16 11:31
I had the same thing. Turns out the solution is to stop watching it funnily enough. If you are having to force yourself to engage in something that should be fun what is the point?
15 Name: Air 2024-04-16 11:59
>>10 i'm the same way. i can make my own pacing when reading manga. when you're watching something you're not completely in control of that.

As any /djt/er would tell you the most important thing is to consume lots of japanese media and "immerse", but obviously you need to know how to read at least hiragana, katakana, and some basic kanji before that. Other than that what I believe is most important is to not let yourself get intimidated by the language. Take your time, enjoy the learning process, and soon enough you'll be able to at least follow along with anime without any subs.

It's disturbing that the first thing ""people"" recommended was taking dr*gs instead of learning Japanese.
Along with the very high ratio of posts that lack proper capitalization, this place really feels like it's straight out of Discord, and it LITERALLY is!
Garbage website. Good intention N0TH4NKY0U, but this website isn't saving the web.

I have faith in the strength of this site's impeccable aesthetic to overpower every shortcoming; it has the heart to impower even the discord-drones to do better. Lighten your heart.

if u have to motivate urself to watch anime maybe just dont watch anime. or get on an adhd med like everyone else said. you are treating it way too seriously when u should just be enjoying it. dont treat it like ur studying for an exam.

I already really like this site. I do hope that it is not at all influenced by Discord "culture" though.

Why do you watch anime?

Anime has both video and audio, meaning when you focus on reading subs you miss out on some audio and video detail. While manga is fully translated, besides audiographic Text (exmpl. かかかか).

>>27 this is where the joy of language learning comes in, if u watch it in a dub you barely understand it becomes 100% visual, no silly distrating dialogue just basic vocab

Okay calling someone a newfag on a 1 week old text board is really funny LOL

newfag to textboards not this one specifically. kinda insane to talk about proper capitalization when that's not expected or even common on any textboard I've ever been on.

Maybe start an anime blog, so that you can motivate yourself to watch anime by writing about it? I'd recommend neocities as a place to host your anime blog because then someone might actually read it. You could also blog here I guess.

Having unified writing style board-wide helps to differentiate individual users (that assumes they don't write their names, together making it easier to enforce board ethics and promote lurking before posting!

It has mandatory accounts, you can't comment without having one. That itself defeats the purpose of not being identified.

I only watch anime when Im in a good. If something bad happen to me or I argued with someone, I try to get it over it before playing vidya or watching a show. It could take hours, it can take the rest of the day. I can go multiple days without watching anime, a lot of the time. Going a week without atleast 1 episode is rare.

Try to watch a "shitty" long-running Shounen series like Naruto and Dragonball Z. Detach your identity from watching anime, and from the pretensions of having "good taste." Don't burn out on anime by just trying to watch all of the "good" stuff with a deep meaning. Stop trying to find good anime to watch to discuss on forums; if you can help it don't even read the synopsis or tags, look at the picture and make a split second judgement.

Stop trying to be efficient about watching anime, reject efficiency. There's another thread here by someone who can't escape from short-form content addiction. Short-form content addiction happens because you want to be efficient and maximise the use of your time. These are all delusions born out of attachment.

There's a website called animelon which lets you watch anime episodes with and without english, romanji, hiragana, kanji subtitles. Re-watch the same episodes with and without subtitles if you want. It hasn't got all anime though, so you could just torrent anime and watch with and without subtitles.

I recommend World Trigger, it's pure Shounen Slop.

finally a good reply very impressive

probably doesnt work for everyone but I find formulating a concrete question that you want to research or a quest you want to pursue very helpful. find something related to the medium that you are genuinely curious about and wholeheartedly engage with it.
dont worry if you dont “find the answer” or fail to complete the quest. changing directions to explore other intrigues is welcome. only worry if you run out of questions or points of interest. you are exploring the world of anime, enjoy the expedition.

Similar to this, I find that I enjoy the pseudo-grind of watching anime as a project. For example, watching everything by a certain director or everything in a particular franchise.
