1 Name: Anonymous 2024-06-16 08:44
Please help. I can't remember what happened in previous anime and light novels I read but if I forget the stories I watch then there's no point in watching stories. Please tell me how to remember what happens in stories...

I guess the reason I want to remember is that so I can talk to others about anime without sounding like I haven't watched it even though I have.

I think you should look into a note taking system if this bothers you. There are many options from just pen and paper to complex software like obsidian. Personally I just use plaintext files to take notes. There's nothing to be ashamed of that you can't remember everything. Anyone in a more formal environment who has to read a lot of books will take notes, and note taking can be an art in itself.

I just write down 2-8 keywords for each chapter or episode. You really don't need that much to get your mind going.

are you chronically online? if so, maybe your brain is jumbled up with so much excess stimulation that you can't remember such complex topics (in comparison to net garbage). Read some stuff by Thoreau for elaboration desu

Make sure that you're getting 8 hours of sleep and sleeping at night rather than during the day.
Consume caffeine which will improve your memory but don't consume it any time after 12pm.
Make sure you have a healthy diet that gives you all your essential nutrients and drink lots of water
Don't spend your time on social media or consuming shorts
Do exercise, preferably cardio, and get sunlight
Check with your Doctor to see if you have thyroid problems or specific nutrition deficiencies
Cut out any alcohol or marijuana from your life if applicable
Consider trying Lions Mane from a reputable source
Consider tripping on lsd, dmt, or psilobyn. All of which are proven to improve memory.

Also try recording or writing out your thoughts on each episode or perhaps each series. You could tell a friend about the show if you think they're interested. This will help you remember what happened during its runtime

be an active viewer, try to feel what the characters are feeling, and don't be afraid to pause for short bursts of reflection.

The trick is only watch or read things you trully are interested in, not just consume

most of the time you can tell by the first episode if it hooks you or not. If you are only kind of interested by the end of the first, or there are no outstanding qualities, it is likely not worth your time.

memory is difficult. it helps read something, listen to something, look at something. the more modalities of communication that are used in communication the more it can stick. read about memory theory OP

Spaced repetition. Make an anki deck. Remember every line of dialogue down to the length of pauses. Memorise the colour of individual pixels. Stop watching media, stop thinking about media simply start to losslessly store it within your mind. Let all that was once human within you grow vestigial as the flash cards assimilate your neurons
