youtube autodub is fucking terrible and i hate it so fucking much.
there is hardly anything of value being posted to the site anymore.
so thinking it might be time to bite the bullet and stop using yt the only social media site i still use.
denpas who still post on yt, consider internet archive or some other alt vidhost, and using blog posts to point at specific "important" videos, or hell even here, because shit's fucked.

n0 was right about something which is published on Youtube cannot be as punk as something independent due to the nature of the platform. As far as I can tell, the whole reason why denpas still upload to Youtube is due to storage space, which might be right, as no platform has as much storage capacity as Youtube. My point would be, however, that videos are just a bad format for information. Parsing them computationally is a pain in the ass and requires sophisticated AI tools owned by megacorpos to even work, unlike text which can be parsed with a Raspberry PI zero. Furthermore, the format is not very efficient in transporting information if you consider file sizes. The only reason why videos are so prevalent as opposed to text is because, even the more informative ones, are still more entertaining than reading text, at least for most people. There are even more advantages to text. For instance, it's very hard to implement DRM for text, plain text is as free as a format can get. Everybody can read it, copy it, share it, modify it, and do whatever they want with it. Editing a video requires an elaborate hardware and software setup and often you cannot just append or modify a video like you would with text. It's not just Youtube that's the problem, it's the format of videos as a whole.

Either use the Gopher/Gemini protocols or Vimeo.

>>5 Is technology there yet when it comes to captioning videos, and being copyable as basic text, without the cumbersome way youtube does it as 'moment', tagged with the times at which lines are said ? If its something possible, maybe one could use 'something' ( software or whatever I dunno ) to generated a text file of the script, so one can parse the information as a txt file ? I mean, I cant be the first one to have asked such a thing, and there are mad scientists of the web out there who have probably made a solution of some kind, which circumvents the need to be shackled to the way youtube does it. Otherwise, video is for me efficient enough for me to continue to watch, and I happen to enjoy it over reading a text file. But, I know people out there don't like youtube, so maybe if there exists a software to speech to text somehow, then there's not much need to be tethered to youtube, other than the storage space being like a free cloud and it being more likely to find an audience. But I'm just thinking out loud here, I haven't got the knowhow to be able to get around it, if one felt it desirable to do.

Some thoughts on the initial OP.... Potentially the way could be to contribute to some kind of self exploration, involving self improvement, while also enjoying the ride and not taking ourselves too seriously. Perhaps, in an environment where we realise our hand dealt, we can accept ourselves. And teach others, pass the torch down, in a growth mindset. I somehow believe that consuming things online, we can reach acceptance of ourselves and where we are in life. Novels are a good way to learn empathy, for example. Perhaps a similar mechanism can work with good, quality, posts and creations on the usual media sites. Perhaps our environment doesn't matter too much, because there exists in every community, the ususal subjects, and the roles that people adopt. So perhaps as a mini niche community, there's a to and fro which can occur, where the output has some kind of quality we can measure. I'm also thinking out loud, here.
