During a challenging hike you are not able to consume any media at all after a few hours since all the blood you have will go to the muscles and lungs and not to the brain. What the fucking fuck did I just read. What would you be consuming while hiking anyway? How? Why? OP seems cool but even considering to mention something like this is beyond belief to me. Please get me out of this clownworld.
liking nature
disliking industrialization
disliking being in current (western) society
fancying not having toys anymore in your roomThis is the structure of your argument
There's a theme of twats just deciding to waltz into threads and start being venomous to people as soon as they know they are trans without provocation,Yeah that's true but your not supposed to feed the zoo animals. And why do you even bother arguing with these people? You just give yourself headache. The mods here are t girl chasers so they should just remove it but I get the feeling that your kind want to talk about these issues and the only place you can do that is when someone dumps a load in a thread and you get the opportunity to air your opinions by arguing with them. If you want to stop them from festering a simple "fuck off" is enough. If you want healthy trans issues discussion than just make a thread for that.
I am like 5'5ishSo? How are you in a fist fight? Can you swing? And Travel light. You don't need to pack everything, just the essentials. Biggest mistake is to pack a ton of unnecessary stuff. There's no use lugging around things you absolutely don't need. Have some clothes, towel, med kit, some spare food, tape, emergency supplies, maybe a book or a handheld, and that's it. Everything else you can just buy when and if you need it. Stick something heavy in that backpack and practice marching around to build endurance.
be 20 y/o Moscow student
gf situation goes sideways
decides he’ll “prove he’s a real man” by running off into the >forests of Novosibirsk Oblast
takes a buddy with him on the train + supplies
buddy gets cold feet (literally), bails back to civilization
OP stays because pride/obsession/“I have to do this”
temperature hits ~-20°C
he starts posting from his phone on a survival / hermit forum >asking how not to die out there
people tell him to turn back ASAP
he replies basically “either I survive here or I die here; not a joke”
signal/battery dies
searches go on for a long time, nothing
later a hunter finds the camp: crude shelter, student ID/phone nearby, body
It's really easy to get started with by going on a daily walk to a quiet place, maybe with a backpack filled with a bunch of weight.
In that process, one can always listen to some content, maybe even related to hiking as further preparation for a real, multi day hike.
At some point one can search around for hiking routes on apps like "komoot" to gradually find more challenging routes.
An investment into basic Hiking poles, fast drying clothes, somewhat water-resistant shoes, a long rain poncho, a 40L Backpack, a tarp and sleepingbag, etc... can be made along the way.
What's important, is to always buy stuff with a neutral design with black or muted colors since then you can still use them outside the context of hiking and you'll never be one of those neon colored eyesores.
This hobby is rather cheap and results in a dopamine detox if you keep it up, obviously more so if you go for multi-day hikes or even weeks.
It's also a source of self-worth and a way to challenge one self and explore one's physical and mental limits.
It also keeps you fit and healthy for the day you might get forced to be a wage-slave.
In my case I got to this hobby since my knees could not take a 10km run anymore.
Now I regularly go on low budget hikes for days on end and train for the L1 400km hike through the Alps from Garmisch to Brescia in 2027.
One of my training routes is about 30km and 1km elevation that I walk with 10kg on my back and I already walked multiple +100km hikes, including routes through the Alps.
Oh and yes, it's important to stay away from touristy trails and potentialy Inns since a lot of hikers are just insufferable.
A good rule of thump is: The more color, equipment load, expensive gear, the less you should talk with those people about anything other then a reassurance that you still are on the right trail.
If someone has questions for the topic of hiking, I could give rather qualified answers, though from a West-European perspective.
Thoughts you had during a hike could also be posted here.
I also want to shill for this guy called "Gear Skeptic" and "The Map Reading Company"

The guides to nutrition and the guides to basic movement and navigation are a must watch imo.
PS: In regards to dopamin detoxing: During a challenging hike you are not able to consume any media at all after a few hours since all the blood you have will go to the muscles and lungs and not to the brain.
This feeling is key for breaking an addiction to information for example...
