Why do people love AoT? (demon slayer, sword art online, etc)

I swear for every 1 person who's seen 100+ shows there are 3000 idiots who have watched 3 one of which is AoT(or similar) and they just can't shut up about how it is "GOATed" and "PEAK". It makes me violently angry. OMFG. I think I need to load up CS:GO to cool down
[spoiler] [b] WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN CS:GO IS DEAD THANKS TO CS2? [\b][\spoiler]

So because you were assmad at people generally having mainstream taste and watching fewer than 100 anime (which isn't even a lot), your plan was to play some mainstream vidya because you've probably played fewer than 100 games (which isn't even a lot)?

my plan was to play an angry video game where i die violently that i already own. if i owned cruelty squad it might have been a better pick, but i don't. there are probably better games for that specific mood, but it's not a mood I like, or want to be in, so it's not a genre i spend my normal time researching specific flavors of. essentially for the same reason i question why look into 200 different angry/angsty rock music when i don't like feeling that way, and linken park already fills that particular mood well enough when i'm in it?
and ya, 100 isn't a lot. that's why i picked it. it's a low bar to reach. I guess I could have said 20+ but that felt so low that it might be read the same as 3.

You know, this thread made me wonder: Whose appreciation of an anime show/series can reach deeper, those who watch a lot of different series or those who watch only a few?

I'm going through my 9th anime I am watching in full right now and all eight before that I can distinctly remember and know well their impacts on me, even when it comes to those I'd find mediocre or not that interesting. On the other hand, a hardcore otaku's love for his favorite series can absolutely grow more resilient when its constantly tested by and compared to other shows, I imagine this is the case with N0 and Hidamari Sketch as well.

>>7 when it comes to good comedies its definitely better to have watched fewer anime because the jokes and gags are more fresh and new then, the more anime you watch you'll start to want the better ones, being able to apreciate trash is a gift

stop caring about what they watch. you are identifying with it too much

Shounen is popular and on netflix. That's all there really is to it. Also important to remember that most people are NOT otaku, and don't care about the medium itself.

I feel like i have to explain further now.
This isn't really prompted or directed to people who just watch a few shows and like the big action show of current season. But rather, people who go onto anime discussion threads to hype these shows as the best. Nothing wrong with watching them, or even liking them. It's like if i went into a game suggestion thread then started posting "palworld is the best game of all time" or something equally silly. I don't really hang out in vidya threads, and if i did i would never have the audacity to post an opinion like that. I might suggest something if it were about VNs or if someone was looking for games like fireemblem, and point them in the direction of vns with tactical elements. the metaphor being someone posting about recommendations for an anime like x y or z.

to some degree the premise of the original post that prompted this screed was flawed to begin with. someone asking for anime recommendations with no context at all is only ever going to get things that have wide spread appeal, or generalized master piece quality shows that anyone can enjoy. i guess i am to some degree getting mad at someone posting "what game should i play" and someone answering "sm64" or something. :/

The thing is even most people who appear to be anime otaku, who call themselves anime otaku, and whom many would consider to be anime otaku are also not actually anime otaku. To be an anime otaku, you need to actually give a shit about the medium, that being animation. Most people who watch anime do not give a single shit about animation. whether they've watched 3 anime or 3000. Most people who watch animation, even ones who do so obsessively, know next to nothing about animation as an art form. They know next to nothing about its history. They know next to nothing about its techniques. In fact, it may be correct to say that most "anime otaku" do not actually care about the art at the core of their obsession at all, or have only a cursory interest in it. Rather they seem far more interested in building a mental library of meaningless facts about products. They are just people, in other words, who have a greater-than-average interest in the Japanese (or sometimes more broadly east Asian) cartoon and comics world and constantly partake in its products. To speak personally, I would rather call these obsessive anime fans "hardcore anime consumerists" or "anime product otaku" and reserve "anime otaku" (or just "otaku") for those with a true interest in and knowledge of animation.

(or just otaku) for those with a true interest in and knowledge of animation
the word “otaku” alone has nothing to do inherently with animation or even japanese anime. What about train otaku or game otaku who don’t watch anime?

normies gonna norm. it's a fact of life and when you accept it and worry about yourself things feel better.

Some people obsess like this with animation itself, others obsess with things like learning the japanese language or databasing characters. Anime has many aspects that make it anime and animation is only one of them, there are plenty of media that are unquestionably otaku oriented like VNs and LNs where animation playes pretty much no part. Trying to center animation as the most important pillar of anime is incredibly limiting.

have you ever tried asking them why they liked it? different people like different art, you aren't meant to enjoy everything and they aren't meant to enjoy the art you like. stop getting mad at others for liking what they like.

Just stop discussing anime online and just watch what you like...
