Posting this here as to not spam the board with new threads. I wrote a video about cheating in video games: https://youtu.be/N9tsTdgyt2Y

y'all fuck with dvd cameras at all? https://youtu.be/qdxBr5YU64Q

Cameras are one of the exceptions for my own smartphoneless alternative attempts because they are generally more expensive and more fragile than said smartphones and because I don't take photos or videos nearly as often as I listen to music or write notes for myself. That being said, I don't remember if your phone has a camera but I'd love to see you give that a go if you do. Low-quality .3GP vids are have a special wibe to them as well.

Really? From what I've read, cameras are a fair bit sturdier and longer lasting. Especially the older ones that I like messing around with. But this can be taken as a general rule of thumb as long as you are buying from a quality brand. I haven't tested this tho because I try to be as careful as I can with all my electronics.

For music, I use an Ipod and for notes I use my laptop or paper. Works just as good. Navigation? Pocket gps. Compass, paper maps.

I actually do have some vlogs up that were recorded on my flip phone. Here is a recent example: https://youtu.be/bfmrFtjThlo
I know what you mean with 3GP. It's got a special kind of feeling. Wouldn't call it warm in the way that analog cameras are but it's something for sure.

If I drop my phone, it's no big deal at all.
If I drop my digital camera, I am immediately worried that I fucked it up. Admittedly, the only standalone digital camera I have left is from like 2004 or so, but I would not describe it as being as sturdy as my phone.

Oh, I must have missed that one. That is from your CURRENT phone? Super crunchy, I like it. I'd have thought even the low-end flip phones have a semi-decent camera now, something akin to my Xperia X8's in terms of quality. Nice to see the aesthetics live on.

sorry for jumping in like that, I'm not >>4 and haven't posted any pics
my current phone is a Galaxy S23+ and while the camera sucks, it doesn't have a nice aesthetic and is merely just not a good camera vs my previous Galaxy S9, which had a decent, modern camera

having an old Canon digital camera (not at home so I can't bring up the model) is pretty nice though, even if it is a bit of a hassle to take around

I always wanted to try drugs to see that colorful, dizzying fractal-like trip myself you often associate with psychedelics. PsychonautWiki made me realize that probably is not going to happen unless I down a lot of the stuff all at once though, so I gave up on it and decided to try meditation and lucid dreaming instead.

>>17
Depends on your definition of a lot. I think doing any of the classical psychedelics but no other drugs is fine. Probably even beneficial based on the research we've seen. But abstaining from everything is good too. I'm glad you found something that works for you.

Why do you single out caffeine and nicotine as the only drugs that don't cause habituation and withdrawal? Are they somehow exempt from causing up/downregulation?
The article is very persuasive on where "common sense" is wrong and where it is right, but it felt like a cop out to fall back without explanation to drugs that are widely accepted. (only because it's without explanation)
21 Name: OsakaSyndrome !VMyg78WhNs 2024-11-19 04:21

I never claimed they were exempt from causing up/downregulation. I didn't imply that, either. I threw that sentence in there to allude to a future article I am planning. The article will be about how and why I don't believe these drugs negatively impact a person's productivity.
22 Name: OsakaSyndrome !VMyg78WhNs 2024-11-19 04:23
>>21
I'll link the future article in that section of this one, as well. So people can see my thoughts on that issue specifically. I appreciate you pointing this error out. Had hoped the article would be done by now but sometimes I am slow.

why I believe these drugs don't negatively impact a person's productivity.
You could launch this argument from the purely sociological advantage caffeine and nicotine have: Illegal or gray-area drug use is bound to be sketchy, and unless you have a pharma source choosing caffeine and nicotine has the assurance of being free of dangerous impurities. But this arises from caffeine and nicotine being regulated, meaning if other drugs were to become regulated too, caffeine and nicotine would no longer have this comparative advantage.

I expect an argument from biochemistry, but there I don't see how the traditional tea from coca leaves I read about is worse for you than coffee. Among other examples, I've also heard DXM in the 45-99 mg range seems therapeutic. What I mean is I don't see why drugs used at low doses should be more harmful than nic & caff. Are long-term SSRIs as recommended by a doctor even okay by your book?
24 Name: Anonymous 2024-11-19 20:15
this arises from caffeine and nicotine being regulated, meaning if other drugs were to become regulated too, caffeine and nicotine would no longer have this comparative advantage.

this is absolutely true. many other currently unregulated drugs would have no problems on society if they were to be regulated in the same way as caffeine. the only reason people aren't ruining their lives to get their coffee fix is because it is cheap, available, and safe. but the minute there is a caffeine prohibition, then there is a black market for coffee beans and tea and now we have to worry that those are laced with dangerous levels of other things, the costs sky rocket and people start taking out dubious loans putting them into the death spiral.
plenty of people can use things like meth and be fine on a daily basis (pretty much already happening every day already), but only when it's available. many people getting their lives ruined due to the current shortage, thus requiring them to turn to black market for it.

My post will arguing that there is something distinct about caffeine's pharmacology which leads to it not hindering people's productivity in the same way as other drugs. Alcohol and perscription amphetamines are legal and regulated and yet they are routinely misused with destructive consequences.
I don't buy into the idea that regulation alone would solve those problems because obviously those problems are still present with currently regulated drugs. The argument that I find more convincing is that some of prohibition's externalities would be minimized. My blogpost argues for a legal, regulated framework for that reason.

Honestly I forgot to mention coca tea. That and khat will get a shoutout in my upcoming post. You make a good point about low doses.
Im skeptical of the idea that SSRIs should be used long-term as well.

Yesterday, while we were washing the dishes by hand with my mother, she cut her finger pretty bad by accident. I quickly nabbed the pack of band-aids from the top cabinet in the living room and prepared one for her, taking care of the rest of the dishes after. Later I reflected on what'd have happened if I wasn't a hikki-NEET who lives with the whole family and was away at a job like everyone else: she'd have had to drop dishwashing halfway through and fumble around the shelf with a non-dominant hand, probably get her glasses beforehand even to try putting that thing on.
It's things like this that make me appreciate my circumstances somewhat.

So some people have been noticing a loud high-frequency noise in Osaka's CRT gameplay videos and after checking the spectogram in Audacity, sure enough there is a gigantic bright line just below the 16k line. I went ahead notified Osaka of the issue and how to fix it.

The feed on his language learning videos is making me cringe.
I don't mind advice videos when it is somewhat raw and genuine from someone like Osaka but the resulting recommendations from his "learning spanish" videos are so annoying.
Here is a sample for anybody wondering:
