Western philosophers are not sitting in oak-paneled rooms plotting deforestation ops.

Yes and no. Some were and some weren't and in some cases it was the logical consequence of their ideas. But it explains a mindset. Why does a society produce philosophers who hate the metaphor of trees while that same society is destroying a vast amount of plant life?
