hmm having choices about how the things I use work is bad actually. I might have to learn something and that scares me. yeah I just want a corporate monopoly to think for me. Better make sure everyone knows that i think this makes me better than them.
I promise we do not care. No one asked. You need to go back.

Second hand Mac isn’t a bad choice if you need it for casual stuff but it sucks for gaming. In that case your only options are to stick with Windows or move to Linux. Also those Macs will be useless doorstoppers after a decade or so. Good luck trying to service them.

Linux fanboys bicker over distros the way people argue about sports teams. I’m not even convinced it has anything to do with functionality. The tech world is filled with idol worshipping cultists. Yeah.. learning Linux is so scary and hard. Everyone’s so scared that’s why they aren’t a cultist like me. Sure thing buddy.

inb4 NixOS doesn't have this problem
On Guix if an update breaks something, you can just roll-back toa previous generation, you can do this straight from the GRUB boot menu, if it doesn't boot or something.
NixOS should be similar but I'm not sure if it's all configured by default. I'm just learning Nix(ultimately just to extend Guix).
Both require some learning to use, Guix's documentation is good while Nix's is infamous.

Flatpaks shouldn't interfere with the rest of the system, that's kind of the point of them.

I wouldn't get any Mac older than an M1. You could just use those old versions of MacOS(that won't be supported for that long) on other laptops since it's x86_64.
