What have you done today, either progressing towards a more long term goal or hobby, or as apart of your general self-improvement routine?
2 Name: Mint the Denpa 2026-02-22 21:21
My diet has improved significantly since December of last year when I learned how cheap and non-perishable frozen fruit and vegetables are. I went from eating very little fruit and veg to eating several hundred grams of frozen berries and mangos a day as well as incorporating cheap vegetables into most of my meals. I can't have a pasta nowadays without including at least an equal amount of vegetables and beans into the dish.

my self improvement is more focusing on things i love rather than practical improvements in my daily life....although i have been trying to quit smoking...not beating myself up over it though. Mainly i want to cultivate a better mental palace for myself.

painted some (getting into watercolor lately, acrylic is annoying in ways watercolor isn't), played some uke, ground some ankis, tapering down on vape nicotine levels. just a typical day.

i started brushing my teeth twice a day >:O

I am not actively improving myself. So instead I will list things that I should be doing. I need to stop drinking alcohol (or cut it down significantly, but, knowing myself, this is not possible), attempt to fix my sleep schedule, produce more music instead of spending time on Youtube and spend more time reading.

The belief that it is not possible is a self-imposed obstacle.

I'm being realistic. In theory is it possible to just have a single beer at night? Sure. Will it ever be that? No, if I have any at all I have an insatiable craving to increase the intoxication, all common sense and rationality goes out of the window.
9 Name: Anonymous 2026-02-23 08:55
pick one thing you "need to do" and associate it with a thing you "need to do less". start small.
example: i needed to stop smoking cigarettes and needed to brush my teeth more than once in a "when i remember". so i could smoke, but i then forced myself to brush my teeth. every time. so i could do a full pack, but do i really want to brush my teeth 20 times a day? some years later - i don't smoke cigarettes anymore and I do brush my teeth.

Then you should stop drinking all together. That is realistic. I was in your position for years buddy i know how it ends

I am still doing well with my diet. Went from over 200lbs months and months ago to like 169 today. I still have a bit to go, but I will totally make it.

What kind of diet are you on to cut that much weight?
20 Name: Anonymous 2026-03-01 18:48
I'm doing a caloric deficit, i want those abs visible.

purely calorie counting
only number I focus on at all, my diet isn't focused on only eating a certain kind of thing or avoiding anything much in specific (that being said, potato chips and soda are the devil for losing weight; it's also surprising how much better ice cream is a snack than you'd expect - it isn't low calorie, but it's not really that much of a hit either)

2 meals a day, and I completely killed my soda intake (200+ cals for merely 16oz) in favor of unsweetened green tea and if I'm not home, Arizona drinks (a whole big-ass 22oz can often comes in better than a 16oz Coke; the Arnold Palmer Lite comes in way better) and vitamin water (80-100cal/bottle)
as a result, I cut my liquid calories in half in the least favorable conditions, and I do better than that most days

in general, I'm eating under 1800cal/day just about every day, and often under 1600
half a prepackaged sub at the grocery is less than 600cal (it claims less than 500 on the package, I don't know how much I believe that, and since they're made in store daily, the weight of each sub definitely fluctuates), and with a sub-150cal drink, I have a whole, reasonably filling meal
if I do that twice a day, and then have maybe 200cal in snacks, worst case is still like 1700cal (750*2+200), and I know for certain I am overestimating those numbers (I am not drinking a whole 22oz can at once, and my second meal is often at home, so I'll have green tea for 0 cal, or a vitamin water for 80cal)

I don't know my real average, I haven't kept a log (and there are days where I have eaten out at a restaurant and totally had like 800cal+200cal+200cal in one meal, but they're very rare, and my second meal for the day was probably still under 800cal, possibly even way under)
extend that over maybe half a year at this point, but I can't remember when I started
I'm not super picky about what I eat, just how often I eat, and I round up my numbers

my day job is relatively active (warehouse work), so my base caloric rate is generally over 2000cal/day, and I'm not particularly scrawny (I do think I have lost a little muscle in this process, although not as much as I had feared), so I'd expect to have a bit of leeway too

I’m glad you’re doing well. I have 40+ pounds to loose and lots of stomach flab. I have trouble sticking to it, but I eat two meals a day, avoid snacking most days, and only drink sodas if they have no corn syrup and sugar. Also I train everyday, jog a couple miles everyday day. I hate calorie counting and I’ve heard too much deficit is pretty bad for you. Really struggling to cut out the snax and cutting down portion size.

I do think I have lost a little muscle in this process
Maybe try adding more protein to your meals? Don’t use any of those gym bro powders, they’ll give you cancer.

honestly, I think I just need to actively exercise more to keep my muscle mass where I want it
I don't live a totally sedentary life due to my job, but I also don't really do much outside of it
if I had a desk job, I really would just be a total potato, lol

also, too big deficits are bad for you, yeah
I think I remember reading that muscle is the first thing to go if your body really isn't getting enough calories and isn't active, since your muscle mass contributes the most to your daily baseline caloric use
I do eat a lot of meat when the day comes, so I don't know if I'd need more protein, but it is possible
if I think it's going to be an issue, I would probably start to track my protein intake, and I guess if I do start being more active outside work, I probably should track it anyway

To become a reclusive scholar I’ve been working on my classical language skills, reading books of theology, and occult. I have a depression problem though. It puts me out of commission for weeks. I get derailed completely. I also have anger issues and lash out at people. Today I was in the bookstore and a bunch of normalfags started talking about philosophy tube and how bad Foucault was for wanting to lower the age or consent. I was so mad I wanted to punch them in the face and spent the whole day raging. I guess I gotta work on that.

Calorie counting is so easy nowdays, just type that shit into ChatGPT (check the labels for any differences and that there's no crazy sneed oils or something) while you're eating.
I think I remember reading that muscle is the first thing to go if your body really isn't getting enough calories and isn't active, since your muscle mass contributes the most to your daily baseline caloric use
Your body is designed to store fat (for the winter in nature). Just make sure you're getting 2 grams protein per kilogram. 400g of 10% fat ground beef is already 100g if you're around 80kg you meed 120g daily.
You should be primarily eating beef, as mentioned don't take those powders they're made from waste products, eat natural foods you'll save money from the total amount of food you're buying.
Beef is kinda expensive atleast in my country, when I start moving out and paying for my own food, I'll go to ethnic markets they outsource halal meat from Denmark

List of things I should be doing:
1) learning Japanese
2) learning how to draw
3) becoming the Otaking
29 Name: Anonymous 2026-03-09 17:56
I am glad to say my Japanese study is going places. I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to read significant portions of text in some Japanese GBC games and actually understand it. I did get lost fairly often still due to my vocab being comprised of maybe 1200 words that I know with complete confidence, and then however many other words that I'm familiar with but don't really know.

I am also here to say that Game Boy Color games have the absolute worst kana fonts. Worst. I had to simply guess what kana some characters were, and then remember that fact while also trying to read. Painful.

Accept your small part you play in the world. We can mostly only impact that which is closest to us. Let go, be free. Pay attention locally, the national news is for feeling doom and gloom. Local news may be more positive in that it impacts you closer to home. Find ways to connect with others ( I know, we are all neets and shut ins ) but it doesn't have to be that way completely. Self acceptance takes a while, but is worth it. You'll be less self conscious, if you can put in some time analysing your self worth, mindset, and the way your body and mind works. It doesn't have to be self improvement. Besides, the average person isn't self improving beyond going the gym, and working. The minimum should be to find a way to move around every day, even if just walking in a garden or to the corner store. We are closer to our local residents than to the top 1 per cent. Not everyone is a smoking hot 10, look around, seriously. We are decaying if not growing. And a lot of normies smoke, booze, and still live to their 80s. So it's not that important to be a God amongst men. Set your sights lower, be satisfied with the small gains. But maybe I'm just a raving loonatic, and this all doesn't mean anything. In that case, Shoepenhaur has a thing or two to say about it.

Interesting that the contradiction that you "discover" as harmful to the generic human subject is that between "national" and "local". To which you contrast the "large" stage of political larger than life actors, and the "small" personal nick-knackery of self-improvement.

We live in a global society. We have a global economy. The nation is everyday something smaller and smaller, one of these days we will no longer have to bear this farce of "national" news, or any sort of news media for that matter.
In defending "local" living over national living, you are being more blood-and-soil than blood-and-soil, more reactionary than reaction. You spread your poison online all to see, you huddle in comfort with your fellow losers who care nothing more than their little volksgemeinshaft suspended in their local community.

You should your sights HEIGHER! You should reject to reduce your self to the struggles and libidinal apparatus of the lowest common denominator, of classes that are ON THEIR WAY OUT. Rather than rejecting struggle, rather than accepting asceticism as the end all and be all of LIFE, you should do the opposite -- and set your sights on that which is INESCAPABLE, that which has through the interplay of human relations elevated itself to be something truly UNIVERSAL.

"WE" (the generic human subject, though I know what YOUR "WE" is, THE STATE-CITIZEN!) are by definition not a "local-resident", that is the subsumption of all subsumption, that renegades the truly international circumstances of "our" existence, OUR "LOCAL CITIZEN" IS NOTHING MORE THAN THE COSMOPOLITAN, THE "WORLD CITIZEN"!

Go my son, and sin no more.

( sorry for doublepost ) Ah I see that the post was truncated. I see more of it now. All I can say is, What makes me special to do such a thing ? I'd only be running away from who I am. Chasing a dream too big. I'm happy as I am. That's a race for someone else, not me.

Do you ever find that a period of self improvement often occurs after a great upheaval? I'm concerned I may be being quietly convinced to leave my home.
