I'd add that this obsession is based in an interest and fascination for their own sake. So professional analysts and researchers might be obsessed with something because they get something useful out of it like money or position. Question for the hikkis among us: when you're in your room, what's the light level you keep things at? Pitch-black? Bright like it's daytime? Let me know! Yeah, eyestrain is a bitch. If your eyes hurt, you're essentially locked out of your life. That's the case for me, at least, considering just how much time I spend on the computer every day. This does not mean there aren't any brilliant games, and some systems will be much less terrible for doing this than others.
N64 has a surprisingly high quality-to-shit ratio, and this has nothing to do with nostalgia - there was a bigger market on PS1, so there are oceans of trash there, burying the dozens and dozens of top-class games the PS1 has.
Case in point (if not a great point): the 32X has a weirdly high quality-to-shit ratio, although I will admit that this is largely because the library is full of several fairly decent ports of some very good games, and there are less than 40 games period.
The 2600, NES, PS1, PS2, and Wii are probably the most slop-filled machines, but that's largely because they had such high market share.

If you want to feel jaded, sit down with a fullset of games for almost any given system and play them one-by-one in alphabetical order for a few minutes each. You will encounter more garbage than you could have ever believed existed.
Doing this with the NES is actually pure fucking torture.
This doesn't mean you won't also encounter the games that people actually liked.

There are machines with really high quality to shit ratios (like the Neo Geo AES, even if you will play through dozens of fighting games, some of them basically yearly releases like KOF), but you will also notice the fact that those systems don't have very many games on them overall.

It does feel that the market share of pure slop has dramatically increased because of the sheer ease of making indie slop titles.

In order to stop being endlessly inundated with pure trash in terms of media, I simply have a ban on anything from this decade. I don't play, watch, read, or listen to anything made after 2019. The last six years have for the most part been a failure and I'm done trying to engage with the culture surrounding the world today. I'm repulsed by where we are and what we're doing and I think this general guideline reflects that, though by 2018 the cracks were already starting to show, so really this rule of mine is mostly encouragement to experience more stuff from the 90s and 2000s.

(I don't follow this rule to the letter, since there are some good bands left that had albums I like in, say, 2021, but generally speaking it's better for me across the board if I just stop existing in the 2020s as best I can.)

Mhm. Horse mechanics are for the most part undercooked; mounted combat wasn't even in the base game, iirc. They added it in a patch some time after release. Also, horses are essentially roleplay items; I'm relatively sure they aren't actually that much faster compared to foot-travel.

The biggest issue with horses is, of course, that they fight enemies when you dismount, making it inconvenient to have one. If it dies (which is very possible unless you have a mod that makes the horse not aggro everything,) it becomes a waste of a thousand gold. At least you can get something for your character to be sad about, though. It might be a good avenue for some development in that regard.

Skyrim was never my favourite when it came to character roleplaying, anyhow. TESII Daggerfall is the most 'open-world' of them all, though it's definitely more antiquated and focused on huge, sprawling dungeon-crawls than any other Elder Scrolls game (if you aren't playing a thief.) Love it to death either way.

for super fast yakisoba I use Indomie as the noodle. I'll start the water on the stove and start preheating the pan for frying I wouldn't suggest teflon coated, since frying requires higher temp. if you want to be awesome get a carbonsteel wok, but i'm not that awesome and just use a thicker carbon steel pan. (castiron is great for this too)
while that's getting hot and the water is getting to boil i do vege prep. Onions are a must, half an onion, peel the skin, then cut into radially into wedges. carrots are great, I'll use the back of my knife to scrape the skin off roughly, give it a rinse then roughly Julienne them. bell pepper, mushroom, squash, peas, green beans, broccolli, all work great. if i'm using some frozen veg I'll throw them in the water when it hits a boil along with the noodles. for fresh veg i throw them in the pan at the same time (no need to overly fry them.) I also will drop an egg on the side of the pan with the veg then break the yolk without scrambling it. after about 2-2.5 minutes of boiling the noodles, drain (do not fully cook the noodles!)
scoot the veg on top of the egg to give room so the noodles can directly contact the pan. add some oil (either the coconut garlic oil the noodles come with or a neuteral oil. noodles (and any boiled veg) go into the pan along with any surface water that stuck.
here you can either use the packets that come with the indomie or use a combo of oystersauce, fish sauce, soy, chili paste, garlic, green onion, ginger, and or sesame. There are many variations, and knowing what you like more or less is a bit of experimentation.
let the noodles fry a bit before stiring it all together to mix the items and flavors up.
takes about 6 minutes total. if you have any leftover proteins like boiled chicken, pork, beef, (firm) tofu or frozen shrimp all work great.

i will sometimes upgrade the noodles with fresh yakisoba noodles from an asian market but for a quick lunch i keep pantry stocked with the "instant" panfry noodles. (do not use instant ramen, it will be sad and you might cry)

Fixing the fan itself is harder, it's probably more effective to just replace the fan entirely unless you know what you're doing. Not really. I've been one for 7+ years now and despite my personal issues I feel like I've barely begun exhausting all that this lifestyle has to offer. I am speaking from quite a privileged position though. There are small pockets of sanity on the web and if I grow weary of the world I can always just go into the woods or retreat into my own mind and come back refreshed. In my experience, when small imageboard communities create a discord or irc, the site starts to die because people just talk there instead of posting. It also always ends in "drama". I for one am against the idea.

What's stupid about that idea? As >>324 mentioned - the irc would inevitably siphon some posts that would be made here and would likely decrease overall activity.
We could disagree about if this would lead to the board's death (where do you even draw that line?), but it seems pretty obvious to me that this would reduce the overall level of activity.

Maybe you weren't here but this was tried (with discord and matrix) in the early days of the board. Somehow it seemed to make more sense then because n0 had shutdown his discord server and this site was to be its replacement, which ultimately led some to want to reclaim a type of live-chat group for the people who had been members of the original discord server. Ultimately this server and its matrix spinoff both fell out of use a bit more than a year ago.

In my experience, people use IRC and boards for different types of things, so it doesn’t necessarily decrease activity. There are ways of mitigating that anyway. You could shut the IRC down or have it closed for a couple hours, forcing people to post. I could see it killing the chat thread but not the rest of the site.

to be clear, i was telling 326 to make one if they want one. in the spirit of "do it your damn self" in full remembrance of the failed earlier experiments to spinoff chat rooms. I don't think it would kill the board. In the best case it would improves the board content quality, the more likely case is 3 online users at peak usage of the chat and dead in a week, with only a few shill messages to ever mark it's existance.
